Rebuilding a hybrid battery is often a much cheaper alternative to replacing the whole pack — as we describe in the article “Rebuild versus replacement”. When choosing a workshop it is worth checking not only the price, but also the scope and terms of the warranty. In this text we point out what to look at.
What should the warranty cover?
- Replaced cells or modules — a warranty on new or rebuilt modules (for example 12 months)
- The workshop labour — fitting, balancing, diagnostics after the rebuild
- Free diagnostics during the warranty period — if problems appear, the workshop should check the battery at no extra charge (according to the terms)

What to look at in the agreement?
- The warranty period — for example 12 or 24 months; from when the period runs (from the repair date)
- Exclusions — mechanical damage, flooding, modifications and incorrect use (for example standing longer than 2 weeks without driving, or avoiding trips of about 15–20 km) can be excluded
- The scope of a warranty repair — whether it covers replacement of faulty cells, or only diagnostics and a possible estimate
Use and the warranty
For the warranty to stay valid, follow the advice in our articles: regular driving (at least once a week, trips of about 15–20 km), avoiding a stand longer than 2 weeks, and a hybrid-system diagnostic every 2–3 years or about 80,000–100,000 km. Incorrect use can be grounds to exclude a warranty claim.
Summary
When choosing a battery rebuild, check the scope and terms of the warranty — the period, what is covered and what the exclusions are. Good workshops (including Green Serwis) state those rules clearly. After the rebuild, use the car as advised so the battery and the warranty stay valid as long as possible.
